The treatment is designed specifically to help with Jarisch-Herxheimer reactions (aka “herx”or "herxing"), the short-term but unpleasant side effects of bacteria or fungus die-off during Lyme treatment. And, as many Lymies will tell you, anything that helps is worth exploring when you’re in the thick of it!īurbur is one of several common names for the Desmodium molliculum plant, a perennial native to Peru, and is combined with other herbs in a supplement called Burbur-Pinella. Burbur, combined with other herbs, is a detox treatment that some people say makes Lyme a little more manageable. A friend suggested pulsing the doses.but I don't think you need to pulse more than 4 - 5 days.but I always herx when I start back - usually just one day (it was more severe at the beginning. When people in the invisible illness community talk about burbur, they're usually referring to one of the 14 products in the Cowden protocol for Lyme disease. I have been VERY sick for a long, long time and have found this protocol to be a turning point for me. Marty Ross has been experimenting with patients for quite some time and recommends 8 months of treatment - starting with one drop and going up by a drop every other day until herxing then wait until herx is over before increasing more (stay at same dose through herx) I find Smilax really helps bind the neurotoxins) You can read all about it at on the Biofilm page. Cowden insists putting the drops in 1/2 cup of water for one minute 30 minutes before eating or 2 hours after. Eva Sapi at University of New Haven Medical School has found that these two herbs together are far more effective than doxy.I take 20 drops of each on empty stomach 15 minutes apart.Dr. Not sure why, but her protocol is individualized for her.ĭr. I have been impressed with the protocol! Of course, she is not on Banderol, but Cumanda. Lingering issues are insomnia and pain-going to keep going up, up, up on the drops! I think she may top out at 60?, then will rotate to other herbals as needed.

Still not where she needs to be, but these herbals really seem to be helping a lot without all of the side effects from the year of abx last year!! We also had positive changes from her time at Hansa-so maybe this is a cumulative thing! She was able to go to Calif alone to visit a friend for 10 days, has had great energy. She is up and around and doing better in a lot of ways.

(This is NOT her entire protocol, btw!).Īnyway, wanted to share our thoughts about it. In other words, she did 1 drop of each per day, and built up to 10-then stayed there for the 12 1/2 days, then up to 20, etc. She is up to 30 drops of each/day and we go 12 1/2 days on, then 1 1/2 day off, then increase. My daughter is taking both Samento and Cumanda and Serrapeptase along with associated detox-burber, parsley, pinella, etc. I just took my first drop of both this morning!
#Lyme brain fog treatment burbur update
Thank you for sharing and I will update you as I go along. It sounds to me like you are having some herx effects from both: I think it means you're getting better.keep at it and stay strong.

However, my doctor yesterday instructed me to start taking Samento and Banderol together, since they prescribe them to work together in some way :) Then if there are side effects, you know which med is probably causing them. I had doctors instruct me in the past to do this when starting new meds, actually. I have heard that it is normally a good idea to wait three days in between starting new things as well. I have used Milk Thistle in the past for liver function, so I'll have to ask my doc if it would be ok to start it up again. WisconsinGardener: Thank you as well for sharing your symptoms. On days when I felt helpless, I thought that if I was at least educating myself, I would be doing worked out though, because that's how I first started to suspect that I had Lyme disease! WWJD20: Thank you for the input on your symptoms and for informing me of the search! I didn't even realize there was a search, so that's fantastic!
